Hybrid frame in mass timber and Ytong.
Coreframe's hybrid frame combines mass timber (CLT) and Ytong in the same system. The result is low weight, good acoustic comfort, robust fire protection — and a frame that goes up fast on site.
Right material in the right place.
We use mass timber where it adds the most value — floors, roof, exterior walls — and Ytong where sound, fire and thermal mass are critical: apartment-separating walls and stair-core walls. The materials complement each other instead of competing.
Quiet, light, fire-safe.
- Low weight — less foundation work, possible to build on top of existing structures.
- Good sound insulation — Ytong as separating wall reaches sound class B without extra measures.
- Fire safety — Ytong is non-combustible; timber parts are designed per the code.
- Fast erection — prefabricated elements installed in days, not weeks.
- Lower CO₂ footprint than a pure concrete frame in comparable projects.
Housing, offices, healthcare.
The hybrid frame suits multi-family housing, smaller offices, healthcare and school buildings and hotels especially well — projects where acoustic requirements, fire and timeline are all central. For simpler structures a pure timber frame may be more economical; we recommend the solution based on the project's needs.
What we get asked the most.
What is a hybrid frame?+
A hybrid frame combines two or more materials in the same load-bearing system — in our case mass timber (CLT) and Ytong. Each material is used where it adds the most value: timber for floors and roof, Ytong for sound- and fire-separating walls.
Why combine mass timber and Ytong?+
Mass timber gives low weight and fast erection. Ytong gives sound reduction, fire class and thermal mass that a pure timber frame struggles to reach in multi-family housing. Together you get the best of both.
Which buildings does a hybrid frame suit?+
Mainly multi-family housing of two to six storeys, smaller offices, healthcare and school buildings and hotels — project types where both acoustic requirements and timeline matter.
How is the acoustic comfort?+
With Ytong as the apartment-separating wall and properly designed floors we reach the applicable sound classes with good margin. It's one of the main reasons we chose the hybrid solution.
What about fire?+
Ytong is non-combustible (A1). Timber parts are designed according to applicable regulations with the right fire-protective cladding or over-sizing. We produce the fire engineering documentation as part of the delivery.
